Do you have one of those days (or many), where work has just taken a toll on you and all you want is just to release stress? Well, below are some of my ways to release stress after a long day at work.
1. Have dinner with your BFF
Meeting a friend always lifts us up, especially with someone you can open up to and be yourself. Schedule a dinner after work or do an impromptu dinner date with your BFF. Last week, it’s been a very hectic week and I met up with my BFF Jess for dinner it was a total destress one. We decided to treat ourselves to Tonkatsu by Ma Maison at Publika, talked about life, work, anything and everything such as clothes, shoes, pets etc. After the dinner, our stomach was so full, from the food and laughter our energy is recharged.
2. Go grocery shopping
Retail therapy always helps to release stress, just don’t overspend. You should treat yourself to little reward every week. I would do my grocery shopping on weekdays usually, it’s totally stressed free without the long queue and plenty of parking in the mall. The feeling is great, am accomplishing two things at a time – running an errand plus de-stressing myself.
3. Keep a diary and update it daily
Just before you sleep, take some time to relax and embrace your day. Keep a diary to jot down memorable details of your day, it could be a reflection or achievements you’ve made. Studies have shown that people who spent some time writing about their success and glory showed lower levels of stress at the end of the work day.
4. Read a book or watch a drama
Take some “me” time by reading a book or Netflix and chill. Reading a book is an effective way to get rid of stressful issues at work or the stress after a long day at work. Reading or watching a drama can help in relaxing the mind as it fills them with positive feelings. Relax in an armchair and let your mind travel through the book or drama.
5. Drink a cup of hot tea
One of the great tips on how to release stress is to drink a cup of tea. A hot drink will help to relax you too, but avoid any tea that has caffeine in it! Among all the teas, Green Tea, Chamomile Tea and Peppermint Tea are able to calm your body. Green tea has health benefits in it, as it contains an amino acid called theanine, which will reduce the effects of any caffeine that you have consumed during the day and help you relax.
6. Listen to Music
Classical music is soothing for the brain and can help you unwind. Personally, I enjoy baroque music to chill and rain drop music as it helps me to fall asleep on Spotify.
If all the above doesn’t work, just hug a unicorn (I do that sometimes too). Do you have any secrets to release stress after a long day at work? Share with me by commenting below this post.
