English Tea House and Agnes Keith in Sandakan

Shannon Chow · September 2, 2011 · Leave a Comment

When I’m in KL I mentioned on social media I’m gonna be in Sandakan on a FAM trip sponsored by Firefly and Sabah Tourism Board, many responded that I MUST visit the English Tea House. I wonder why, it’s even a trending place on Foursquare. It’s a lovely place for Tea Party just like Alice in Wonderland. The trees, garden and overall decorations and environment seated on the top of the hill it’s just bliss. If I were to travel with my girlfriends this would be the perfect place to gossip in somewhat Gossip Girl style having tea, it has the “High End” feeling!

For starters we had bread sticks with olive oil and vinegar.

Ice Lemon tea is then served

cakes on displayed

Well guess not having your girlfriends around for chitchatz guys works well! I’m in the gang with the travel agents and we had such a wonderful time chit chatting away and one thing your seated opposite one of the photographers is that you are always the model getting snapped with tons of pictures. I’m just in a BLANK facial expression here…

Some BW pictures of the behind the scenes, upon arrival of our soup.

noms noms. Taking my first sip of the soup

Pumpkin Soup with garlic bread. Many may not like pumpkin however, the recipe was nice and not too thick with it ginger blends the pumpkin hence, neutralizing the strong taste of pumpkin. Nice!

White sauce chicken comes with mashed potatos, carrots, topped with grilled chicken.
The combination was good, gravy was excellent.

What’s next?

after our 3 course lunch meal we were craving for some dessert and ordered ourself to some of the house specials.

When asked what’s a must try, the waitress recommended us Apple Crumble (RM 13.50) crunchy crumbles topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberry topping. It’s sweet and the combination of hot and cold works so well as we mix the cooked apples with ice cream. It’s just fantastic.

Tiramisu was not that great. Slightly lacks on the coffee taste it comes in it’s tender creamy texture.

After our meal, we visited the famous Anges Keith House located right next to the English Tea House, just Perfect for a good walk around for digestion.

No photos were allowed in side of the house. The house was rebuild after the war and currently as an historical place in memory of Anges Keith. There’s a video documentary showed inside the house for you to understand the story better. While only some remainder artifacts in display.
