Sarawak Cultural Village – Traditional Games and Pastimes

Shannon Chow · February 3, 2011 · 2 Comments

When those days, those people who stayed deep inside a jungle where the jungle is their supermarket for their daily survivor you may wonder how they past their time… I mean there’s totally no entertainment like what we have now in the 21st Century. My homestay experience in Sarawak Cultural Village, Thanks to Firefly; we bloggers at least, were non stop Twittering, Facebooking and BlackBerry Messaging or What’s Apping… very modern in a Longhouse we do it our best to stay connected while in part of the jungle using GPRS! Ages since I see that word appear on my mobile.
but when we’re bored…they play Bowling… I’m not sure if they do actually have it ages ago but am sure not… still fun! You play with Bamboo sticks and…

oh Coconut! Big giant Coconut 😉
and what else can a Bamboo tied to your waist do…?

no not how Chris and Joshua playing around….looks so wrong here!!! *funny*
Here’s what it’s suppose to do… we demo it
*hint don’t Laugh till you fall off the chair is enough for me* =D
tied bamboo to your waist and your suppose to hit the taller bamboo in front of you by swinging it while standing behind the white line…

yay! Goal! or…so Drop!

okay since the dudes look funny in it, I’m sure your thinking something else hanging below 😉 Now we girls Rebecca and me try it.

how it works for Real? Watch this super funny video recorded by Joshua aka Tallboyz.

NO idea why they are laughing so hard at the back while recording… LOL but it’s sure funny!

we also had a simple tutorial on how to play the drums

while in Bidayuh Longhouse the Bamboo dance is use for the quick steps game.
also witnessing actual professional playing Gasing beside the Rumah Melayu

his a super pro one! the Gasing can actually last for hours on the floor if the foundation of the way you tie it is properly done.

at the last night we did some group chill out while singing along to the local lullaby~

singing along together

oh my, with Choir as backup 😉 cute and funny! owh! we had so much fun!

and learn some traditional Iban dance the guys gets to scream and shout like a Warrior! rolf~

while ladies gets to learn how to dance politely yet graceful after looking at the Cultural Performances dances, we’re learning it from the actual dancers! wootz!

It was indeed a night before we end it with supper and head to bed! Sweet melody of the song stuck in our heads~
