This is how the mystery began…
Before I start, let me tell you a little history of AirAsia Malaysia. AirAsia Malaysia flight is a low-cost carrier founded on 20 December 1993. With a total of 221 fleet size including subsidiaries airlines, AirAsia is very well-known locally. Introduction aside, let me start my recollection of that one fateful day. The day when what I thought was some normal day taking the plane is torn between the question of whether what is reality and what is hallucination.
The morning of Friday the 13th. Can you imagine? Of all days, the coincidence to that date is pretty messed up. I’ve already packed my stuff. The plan is to take the 8 pm flight to the North. Good thing Traveloka have the cheapest flights to offer. They have crazy deals too. I feel mindblown myself when looking through their site. Why I’m heading North? Well, it’s just some family occasion that I have to attend to. Why at night? I was leaving right after work, so, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it before 8 pm. I have all things packed and ready. I just need to grab a cab or a train straight after work. Good thing my office is nearby the train station, otherwise, I would have to ask one of my colleagues to give me a ride.
“Hey, I can give you a ride to the airport. I’m going that way anyways.” Ameera said. Nice lady. She’s always helping me out.
“Are you sure?” I asked. I was not about to show how happy I was to her offer.
“Yeah, I’m meeting up with few of my friends at Sepang. Might as well.” she responded. With that, the deal is sealed.
Nothing interesting worth mentioning about the office. It’s dull. It’s quite. It’s the usual monarchical ruling enterprise. The drive was fun, we talked, laughed and pretty much throw dumb jokes along the way. We give our goodbyes and I checked my watch: 7:00 pm. Huh, I’m making good time, I guess. I washed up a bit, checked-in was smooth and the staff was friendly as ever. Maybe that’s why I always like using AirAsia. I went onboard and began looking for my seat. It was Airbus A330, seat 7A. Next to the window. Perfect! This pre-arranged seating system gives me the ultimate upper hand. Another bonus point for AirAsia.
As I was settling, I noticed something. For some reason, I hadn’t notice this before, even from the gate that I WAS THE ONLY ONE on the plane. I’m not early, am I? I don’t think so. I turned around and saw the flight attendant in their unified all-read uniform. They turned as I did. They smiled and I smiled back although, if I had a mirror, I think my smile was not at all convincing. Maybe other passengers are not here yet, I thought silently to myself. Maybe the thought works because I find myself putting my carry-on in the overhead compartment and sat down – getting myself comfy.
It was very quiet. I’ve never heard this depth of quietness when I’m going on a plane ride. I can see the attendant, but I can’t hear any sound from their footsteps or the rummaging of itineraries from the food cart – or anything! I glanced around the plane again; still no one. But, wait, there is A person there. It’s a she. She’s at the same row as me but she was at the far back. I couldn’t see her face though because she looks like she’s reading or something. Well, that’s a relief. At least I’m not the only one here.
Turbulence!
“What the-!” I can’t believe I was that loud. Wait, we already took off? I guess I was really knocked out. I look outside the window, yeah, we’re already on the air. To my amazement, there were no other passenger beside me. Hey, I’m not complaining, I got all the place to myself.
Wait a minute.
The whole row up till the other side of the plane is empty. I glanced behind and I swear I was in a weird scary movie. The entire plane is empty! What?! My heart was racing all of a sudden. This is not normal, right? How a plane be empty? “The woman!” I whispered under my breath and look for the woman I saw earlier before we departed. She was there, in the same position, her head tilted down – reading, or was she? I tried to look closely to detect movement or the sight of her forehead, or something! I can’t see anything this far. I give up and turn back around. I control my breathing. Let’s not panic. Maybe there were no passengers heading North tonight. I close my eyes and started counting backwards from 10. I level my breathing each count.
10…
9…
8…
7…thud~
My eyes snapped open. I turned slowly and my heart was preparing to jump out from my chest. The woman. She is not at her seat anymore. She’s on the seat two rows in front from her previous one. Her head is still tilted down. I turned back to the front and shut my eyes again. I continued counting.
6…
5…thud~
It sounded closer. Don’t stop counting.
4…
3…thud~
I can feel the back row shakes a bit. She’s there. I can feel it.
2…
1…thud~
Right beside me. I was shaking. I can feel the coldness from the side of my body. She’s right beside me. I can feel the presence and it’s not human. I can hear the low and husky breathing. It’s almost like a low growl. My heart is beating so fast, I can’t even hear my own voices screaming when I opened my eyes at the being sitting right beside me. Eyes white without pupil and mouth inhumanly stretched open that almost take up half of her entire face. Her breath was foul corpse stench and that is not the worst part of all. Her skin is not even skin. It’s rotten muscles. I screamed as the wide gaping mouth comes closer and closer.
“Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!” a loud shriek that I have no idea I possessed followed by silence around the area. I gasp for air and look around. I’m at my office and everyone in the room was looking right at me. They have fear and shock stammered across their faces. A soft touch on the shoulder made me jumped. It was Ameera.
“Dude, are you okay? You had quite a nightmare.” she sat beside me looking half worried.
“It was a dream?” I asked myself.
“Uhhh, yeah, it was just dream. Whatever “it” is.” she reassured me. She continued while urging me to get up, “Come on, your flight is leaving soon. AirAsia waits for no man.”
“Wait.” I stopped. “Do you know if AirAsia is haunted?”
Ameera shot me curious look and burst out laughing, “Dude, AA is the most popular airline out there. Traveloka wouldn’t recommend that airline to you if it was that messed up. Relax. It was just a dream.”
The End
**Long story short, don’t sleep in the office. *wink wink*. Well, it’s been fun with this fiction entry of the day and I hope you won’t get nightmares afterwards. Guys, this is fiction, okay, don’t grow any fear of AirAsia after this. Just thought it would be fun to spice things up a bit when we’re talking about AirAsia. Adios!
