Sago Worms Eating it Live or Fried

Shannon Chow · July 20, 2011 · 5 Comments

Recently I was in Sibu on a media FAM Trip organized by Firefly and Sarawak Tourism Board traveling and discovering around the small town of Sibu located in Sarawak, Malaysia.
We were visiting the Sibu Central Market which is known as the largest marketplace in Malaysia. And spotted supplies of Sago Worms! Would you dare to eat them Live? Rebecca Saw did here’s her experience. (link)

they are fat and moving around.

Since my trip to Kuching in SCV, they had wanted to get us sago worms but it was out of stock hence now it’s time for me to try the sago worms. Here’s the worm…apparently a sago worm escaped! LOL
since some of us would prefer it to be fried and Chris Tock was so generous and brought the whole packet of Sago Worms…live. They swim around inside the plastic bag.
we bring it to the Bawang Assan longhouse as we’re there to celebrate the Gawai Dayak festival and they fried the sago worm for us.
Nom Nom….it actually taste nothing. Just creamy and buttery and you can’t eat the head so do chew it off =) I guess it’s just a fear factor of looking at the worms which makes many skip this dish.

An experience indeed. So who’s up to try Sago Worms? It’s their local delicacy.
