Successfully Completed the Borneo International Marathon in Kota Kinabalu

Shannon Chow · May 8, 2012 · 1 Comment

Hello from KK, it’s official! My first “oversea” marathon. 🙂 Months ago, I remembered when planning for this marathon in the office with KB we were so excited yet still couldn’t decide if we really want to fly all the way to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah just for a marathon. In the end, we did. And it was a great experience! Here I am, excited to collect my race pack… and later on went for dessert in Party Play before waking up at 3AM for the Borneo International Marathon.
For half-marathon it’s flagged off time was 4AM due to the early rising of sun in Sabah,  hence marathons are held way earlier here than in KL. Starting point at Linkas stadium.

In the wee hours of Sunday Morning, the weather was just nice as it rained earlier so the air is fresh with cold breeze.
My tracker.

Giant running vest in L size. I’m actually wearing shorts!

I’m only running 10KM and this is my second marathon after my leg injury. The first was Adidas. Perhaps half marathon in future, hopefully. 🙂

Waiting for the flag off time at 6AM. I’m not prepared at all actually. Never done any training for 10KM run nor did I went gym to practice. Just running as it is.

The view was great. As we hit the town, the track was pretty nice with a view of sun rise. Just perfect.

We were also running walking by the beach. Most of the people stopped and walked. While I jog in slow motion and went on while walking on a few KMs.

With my medal. I’ve completed the marathon in 1hour 30 minutes plus so it’s within the 2 hours time frame. The achievement and personal success was great. First marathon in KK feels good. 🙂

We’ve also got JJ and Ean from Hitz fm and Kim from Miss Universe Malaysia running together with us in the Borneo International Marathon. I’ve managed to snap a picture with Kim. 🙂

We’re like a success kid. Finishing a marathon. With KB here!
So right after the marathon we went to Gaya Street for the Sunday Market. Not tired at all though my feet hurts, didn’t know till I went back to hotel when I took out my Adidas shoe my feet were bleeding as the toe nail was piercing to my second toe. Most probably the quality and cutting of my Adidas shoe was bad hence the result so now I’m gonna find socks which has those toes fabrics so my toe nails won’t bite my toe again. 🙁 Never experienced such incident wearing Nike shoes but, this same thing happened during my Adidas run when wearing this new shoe as well. Sigh.

After walking around the Sunday morning market, with the popular demand, I order the noodles here.

Rich in ingredients of char siew, fish ball, dumplings and topped with spring onions. Not bad at all. The noodle was slightly different in texture. Spotted the Laksa was very popular too as many had ordered it.

Ice Lemon juice with Hamkit. Refreshingly sour! Great way to give a boost to your body to awake all your senses.

This is the Laksa stall

This is the stall where they sell dry noodles (kan lou mee).

Pack with people! Not a bad choice I’ve picked. Following the crowds.

This shop is located nearby to Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh in the middle of Sunday Market of Gaya Street.

Coming to KK, besides the marathon, my target was the food, island and bargin hunting. Well not too much of shopping this time as nothing caught my eye in the Gaya Street market nor anywhere in particular but more on food and island trip.

So, now I’ve ran an “oversea” International Marathon, I plan to try out a night marathon. 😉

Well, I’ll see you guys back in KL as I’ll be flying back to KL in a few hours time!

xoxo from KK!
