Sumai Suite Hotel and Apartment at Batu Burok, Terengganu

Shannon Chow · December 10, 2012 · 2 Comments

During the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Competition, together with a few other bloggers we stayed at Sumai Hotel & Apartments which is located within walking distance to the Batu Burok beach, for easy access throughout the 3 days event.
It’s an apartment unit which consist of 4 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms with a spacious living hall and kitchen.

The hotel is within walking distance to the Beach and nearby A&W along with other hawker stalls, it’s about 5-10mins walk. There’s a 7-Eleven 24/7 convenient store opposite the mosque across the road. I would say the location is rather convenient, especially we didn’t have any cars to travel around town and public transport in Malaysia is not very convenient. However, the hotel does offer a cab services from just a phone call away & they have airport transfers too.

Bedroom 1: two single bed with an attached bathroom.

Bedroom 2: a queen size bed.

Bedroom 3: two single beds.

Bedroom 4: one single bed

There are two bathrooms in one apartment unit. Only one bathroom is attached with the master bedroom, while another is located beside bedroom 3 & 4. They are decent clean bathroom with hot shower.

The kitchen, a fridge is provided however not a stove. Guess you can’t cook here, which I find it pretty useless for a huge kitchen like this.
The view from our apartment unit is decent, overlooking the beach. However on the left, some constructions are on going.

An indoor pool is located at the basement of the hotel, some people find it favorable while some
comments on foursquare complains about the lack of sun. It’s up to individual preference, but for an indoor pool in a hotel it’s quite interesting, but the waters are a little cold due to it being indoor.

The lobby

Overall our rooms were clean, decent and beds are comfortable. There’s daily room service, except they do not change the towels provided unless upon request. Wifi is free.

Restaurant during morning breakfast time.

My breakfast on a Friday is great.

Mee soup counter is available. The best time to add as much anchovy (ikan bilis) as you like.

Fruits and cakes section.

Overall the food in the hotel is reasonable, some guest didn’t enjoy the breakfast on Sunday. In Terengganu their weekends are Friday and Saturday, where as Sunday is a working day. Hence the food served on Sunday is more on the local delights with lots of spicy stuff that some guest didn’t like. While on their weekends of Friday and Saturday there are more variety and choices.

    Hi Shannon,

I know this is very old post, but I still want to ask. Is it possible to bring more people than the number of bed allocated for each room? Is there any rules said that they only allowed 5-6 people only per apartment when u stayed last time?

    Thanks for writing this!

Hi Zul, I believe it’s fine. As the rooms are fairly big. 🙂
