Youth movement had always been apart of me. I was excited when a friend who shares the same passion with me Christopher Tock asked me if I’m able to be a panel youth speaker at the World Innovation Forum KL 2012, it was in the evening and I was taking a few laps jogging when I stopped and checked my calendar to see if it clashes with my finals – it was just a few days before my final exam but I agreed to attend and be part of it.
myHarapan brought the house down at the World Innovation Forum Kuala Lumpur (WIFKL) with an array of
in-depth panels and exhilarating performances.
My tag at the WIFKL, feels proud with the word Speaker. At the same time, after being involve with youths and doing various projects, when possible I’ll always take time away to meet the youths at grassroots level and hearing from them of their passion and energy just makes me feels alive. Lately, I’ve haven’t been in touch and had been missing a few key youths development or movement events, it certainly felt good coming back to youth events besides from all the blogging events and being fully focused in my studies this year.
Doreen Loo, Integrated Marketing Communications manager at myHarapan played the role of moderator throughout the session. There’s a twist to this session we’re in which consist the seniors and youth panel in productive discussion about today’s youth, technology & passion among youths.
We had a breakout session, normally you don’t hear speakers having to do a breakout session but we had the privilege to brainstorm on “Zero Crime” and come up with some interesting and practical idea on lowering down crime rate in Malaysia and zero crime rate in an ideal way. As I was tweeting throughout the event, someone tagged Safer Malaysia on some of my tweets as we came up with idea to lower crime rate, it appears that they were similarity of ideas which was also came up in Safer Malaysia proposal.
After the brainstorming session we had to present it to the audience which involves civil servants industry representative and international delegates as well.
We had 3 representative to present and summarize our key points over the 1 hour discussion.
Our ideas are divided into two segments, less ideal world with long & short term solutions as well as having an ideal world of zero crime rates. We do understand that it’s impossible to achieve zero crime rates however, we can lower crime rates.
The less ideal way we came up with some suggestions such as Rukun Tetangga, I know some community area do practice it however, it’s not in every garden/housing area hence we came up with some suggestion and improvement for this such as going back to the olden days where each village have their very own village leader. Hence, everyone in that community will know each other so when a new stranger came into the community it could be easily detected – which brings up higher moral and are able to identify the culprit by lowering snatching & burglary.
We also came up with some suggestions in traffic offenses, when talking about lowering crime rates we suggested that traffic offenses tickets would mail directly to the individual hence it does not go through the police or road enforcement officer to prevent bribery & such.
On the ideal world where there’s zero crime rates. We can incorporate science & technology to assist us in identify a human behavior which is able to detect an error before that individual commits a crime – if brain neurons and physiologic can determine such messages, which would lower and perhaps achieve a zero crime in this world? This could start as early as a fetus before it’s born? Sounds scary to me already. It’s inhumane. There’s a suggestion to remove body parts when a particular person commits crime such as rapist should be punished hence he will not be able to commit such crime again etc. But the cons would be, the human population might shrink in long term.
It was indeed some interesting discussion we had.
A cute potted plant presented as a token of appreciation from the guys at myHarapan.
Later on to showcase innovation, how about some sound from mikrobotmen using 90’s gaming toy, gameboy.
Accompanied by Coex beat boxing to the beat.
Thanks myHarapan, for having me and Chris for recommending plus it was an awesome time meeting some great people especially all of the panel speakers who are passionate for youths!
