Things You Should Know About Digi Data Roaming

Shannon Chow · September 15, 2013 · 3 Comments

Over the weekend I hop over to Singapore for a retreat. The first thing I did after landing in Changi airport was to check in on Foursquare. I also received an instant reply from JetStar and Changi Airport upon tweeting about my experience flying JetStar from KL to Singapore.

Thanks to Digi Data Roaming, I’m able to online 24/7 when traveling overseas for as low as RM 36 per day in Singapore. Digi also provide important information such as the Malaysian Embassy number, a guide on what code to enter for roaming and partnering Telco in Singapore via SMS immediately after I turned off airplane mode.

With Digi Data Roaming it enables me to be constantly connected on social networks to share, upload pictures, check-ins, reply messages on Facebook as well as WhatsApp to stay in touch with my boyfriend and friends back home in KL.

After arriving in Sentosa Cove, I looked up on Foursquare and discovered a lovely pet friendly cafe nearby and headed there for breakfast and brunch.

Did you know, you could enjoy unlimited roaming via your mobile phone, laptop and even tablet with over 41 operators worldwide for RM32/RM36/RM56 per day.

You might be thinking, what if you only use a small amount of data? Well for Data usage less than 3MB it will be charged at:

  • RM10.66/MB with 10kb charging block for RM32/day
  • RM12/MB with 10kb charging block for RM36/day
  • RM18.66/MB with 10kb charging block for RM56/day

Then again how much can you actually use for 1MB data, well based on an average picture size of 60KB, you can upload about 15 pictures with 1MB. While based on 1KB per message, it is about 1000 messages (without attachment) can be sent/received via Whatsapp for 1MB.

Sharing what I had over Instagram in Singapore, I enjoy sharing and posting images even when am traveling as it gives you being my followers an experience as though you are having this sweet Mile Crepe with berries over a cup of piccolo latte. Stay tune to my Instagram @shannonchowz for regular updates!

You see, it’s affordable to roam with Digi, as you won’t be charged more than the daily max cap, it’s only RM32/RM36/RM56 per day so you would know your in safe hands without being overcharged!

Even if you are not a heavy data user, you will be charged based on ‘Pay As You Use’ method, which means if you only use up to 1MB of data, they will be charged according to the charging block, ie. RM10.66/MB (depending on which country you are in).

Network Selection

Here’s a Tip: Do take note that the amount stated on max cap only applies to selected partner telco.

Which means, like now I’m roaming in Singapore, from the SMS I received earlier it had mentioned that the partnered telco is StarHub, ensure that you configured your mobile phone settings in the “Network Selection” and select “Manual Configuration” then select the telco. This method will ensure you only connect and roam on the partnering telco to prevent from being overcharged by other overseas telco.

A snapshot above, shows how I selected “Manual Configuration” on my iPhone, just go to Settings > Carrier > Turn off Automatic > select desired telco (upon successful selection a tick will appear at the side).

Stay connected when aboard and never neglect your friends and followers on social networks.

With unlimited data roaming, I was able to blog using hotspot in Singapore. Stay tune to my review on W Hotel in Sentosa. here’s a sneak peak of my room (in case you had missed it on my Instagram).

Data roaming is also important especially in a new place you’ve never visited, you can look up your hotel location via Foursquare and Google map when taking public transport to check out the distance as well on interesting spots whereby you might had missed during your trip itinerary planning. For more information about Digi Data Roaming visit Digi.com.my/roaming.
