A few months ago, a pleasant surprise from @Holiday_Villa group who tweeted me that I was their lucky 1000th follower and that I won a complementary 3D2N stay at Holiday Villa Cherating. I was overjoy and since I needed a short getaway, this would be perfect. Indeed I’ve enjoyed myself at the hospitality of Holiday Villa Cherating, with their friendly and cheerful staffs.
Together with my boyfriend, we drove to Cherating, estimated about a 4 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur and the parking was free with limited but sufficient car park. My voucher was a complimentary 3D2N stay at the Deluxe Room for 2 person inclusive of breakfast. The room was spacious with a King size bed. I had a comfortable stay overall, on the first day, we took a stroll at the beach located just behind the hotel – what a bliss.
The rooms are tilted – great to avoid carpet bugs. Air cond was functioning well. The bed sheets seems clean however were stained (I’m not paranoid about it though). I could see the bed sheet and pillow cases had been used for a long time as it’s rather worn out as compared to many other hotels I’ve stayed, sheets were newer.
The chairs – to chill, located beside the balcony. We bought a red wine along and had enjoy some long chit chats.
We’ve got a TV in the room, with FOX Movies (astro) showing us some of the newer blockbuster movies, my boyfriend was very thankful for that. Since it’s our mini getaway but we just curled up on bed watching TV most of the time as there really isn’t anything to do besides swimming, walking around the beach etc.
Holiday Villa Cherating is about 25 – 30minutes drive away from the Kemanman or Chukai town, not far but the roads are winding and dark at night. So, when it comes to food, we had to drive to the town to get some, and Kemanan is famous for it’s Stuffed Crabs at Tong Juan and local Kopi at Hai Peng Kopitiam which I’ve been before so it’s great to re-visit again.
I’ve asked the reception in particular if there’s a mini bar in our Deluxe Room, she answered yes but what frustrates me was, my hopes were kept high up thinking that my mid night cravings would be solved. When I open the cupboard under the table, the fridge was empty! So there’s no mini bar in Deluxe Room and eventually I went to the nearby Petronas Station and bought bread for my supper.
For the bathroom, shampoo and conditioner is provided and there was hot water for shower. The shower curtain is my biggest fear, as I see lots of stains on it. Throughout my entire shower time I was focusing not to brush my body against it, plus the shower room is rather small and tight – wasn’t much room to move about.
The view from my first floor room was great, overlooking lots of greens and the pool.
The swimming pool. It closes at 7pm.
Overall, the stay was decent. Upon checking into Foursquare, someone commented that isn’t it a rundown hotel? My heart skipped abit and well, after taking a tour in my room, at first my thought was stains on bed sheet *ewww! But I eventually got over it, as I’ve stayed in hotels that are much worst condition than this during my diving trips and while attending leadership camps. Yes there were a few items I’m not satisfied with in my Deluxe Room but overall for a hotel like this (vintage with the Malaysian interior deco – mainly dark wood) had maintained itself perfectly fine.
Take a stroll in the evening and you get to see many building sand castle.
Breakfast is served at the Beach Restaurant, again, decent food for a 3.5 star hotel I wasn’t expecting much. Omelet was okay with sausage, beans and bread. There were also pancakes but it was on high demand, refills were slow.
I would say through my observation, majority of the guest here are local who comes in family and a few couples. If your planning for a trip to Cherating, look out for promotions by Holiday Villa Hotel and enjoy your private time here. There are beach activities like beach volleyball and if your more adventurous, there are paintball and dirt kart for some extreme fun!
