It was a weekend hop over to Singapore, to catch the intimate side of cirque at Le Noir and on a mission of café hopping in Singapore’s highly recommended café my first aim was Chye Seng Huat Hardware – there are countless and I will certainly come back for more.
Upon my arrival I stood in awe admiring at New Majestic Hotel. Surrounded by shophouses along Bukit Pasoh Road, it stood out in mint green colonial style building.
While checking in, the front desk attendants were friendly and offered me to take a sit while they run through the necessary check-in procedures.
The lobby showcased a few art pieces in modern chic setting with a whiff of coffee aroma from Papa Palheta coffee bar.
I stayed at the Aqua Room. Where the emphasis goes to the spacious bathtub located infront of the entrance and at the back of the bed with curtain blinds. It’s a combination of bathtub and shower.
PS: Staying in the Aqua Room felt like a mermaid~
The bed. Overall it’s comfortable as it’s soft with thick comforter. However, I can feel there’s a gap in the middle, presuming two single beds had combined together. I disliked hotels doing that, however, since I’m staying alone it’s fine by me and it’s only for 2 nights. I am not sure about other rooms so far I’ve yet to read any comments regarding about this matter.
Thoughtful gesture by New Majestic, with Nespresso in-room coffee maker, Kiehl’s toiletries, Bose stereo with iPod dock and Ploh bedding and bath robes. My favourite would be the Nespresso coffee maker, as I wake up early in the morning, there’s good coffee at my convenience in the room and Bose stereo with alarm feature.
Hotel rooms with bathtub is a must, you get to de-stress in hot bubble bath to relax your leg muscles after a long day.
The view and Philips LCD TV.
Here’s the interesting part! Each room are displayed with art of different sort. I stayed in Aqua Room with the artwork of Miguel Chew.
Miguel Chew’s sexy and mysterious work highlights the play of transparency while the black silhouettes engulfed by backlight add a sensual glow to the rooms.
While your at New Majestic, it is highly recommended to try the morden Cantonese cuisine at the award winning Majestic Restaurant. Breakfast provided by the hotel, you get to choose the type of eggs and is served with sausage and bacon. While salad, toast, bao (chinese steam buns) and pastry is buffet style. I skipped breakfast on the 2nd day as I had a few cafes where I wanted to try specifically for their coffee and breakfast.
This is the second hotel I’ve stayed under the Unlisted Collection. Last year, I had a sweet escape during my stay at Wanderlust Hotel located in Little India.
Things I liked about New Majestic apart from stylish artistic interiors, is the location, situated in Chinatown with only a 3-minutes walk from Outram Park MRT. There are a variety of cafes and good breakfast places such as The Plain (Melbourne Cafe) and Tong Ah Coffeeshop (local Kopitiam) within a short 5 -10 minutes walk.
It is advisable to check out the rooms before you do a booking. Each of the New Majestic 30 rooms is unique with a mix of vintage and designer furniture to twin baths. Highlights of the rooms include Mirror, Hanging Bed, Aquarium, and Loft. In addition, there are five “concept” rooms, designed by five Singaporean designers.
